Source: breakingnewsblog.com.NET Framework 3.0 RC1 released … we’re almost done!It seems like we've been waiting for this particular release of technologies forever. For those who have been following the story since our coming out at PDC 2003, the subsequent SDRs (Software Design Reviews), early-adopter programs, CTPs and Betas, can finally see that the light further down the tunnel is in fact the end, and not an oncoming train! I would like to thank all of you who have worked with us over the last 3+ years and helped us make the technologies shipping within the .NET Framework 3.0 so exciting and compelling.
The .NET Framework truly delivers a revolutionary set of capabilities – from the simple and yet amazingly powerful communication fabric that WCF delivers to the incredible flexibility that Workflow can add to your apps and systems; from the amazing user experiences WPF enables designers and developers to create, to the revolutionary approach to authentication that CardSpace introduces – the .NET Framework 3.0 sets the standard for modern application development platforms and is the foundation for a whole new era of rich, sophisticated, flexible and interoperable systems that you will create.
Go download the .NET Framework 3.0 - Release Candidate and the SDK for RC 1 of Wndows Vista and .NET Framework 3.0 and test them out – if you find any bugs, now is the time to tell us ;)

Source: breakingnewsblog.comWindows CardSpace WCS!I've been involved with many discussions with people and teams both inside and outside Microsoft around the acronym WCS.
Many people have taken the mental leap of shortening Windows CardSpace to WCS – I would like your help to stop this happening, for several reasons:
- Windows CardSpace™ is the formal name for CardSpace and only needs to be stated fully the first time that the name is introduced in a paper or presentation, etc. Subsequent mentions of CardSpace can just use CardSpace
- The name CardSpace is already pretty short 'n' sweet and doesn't really need an acronym
- WCS is an acronym that is already being used to refer to Windows Color System and I think we can all agree that we don't want to confuse the two (I've already received an email from a customer asking for information on WCS and they actually meant Windows Color System!!!)
- Because CardSpace is a new technology and a relatively new concept for many, we're trying to establish CardSpace in people's minds. We want people to associate CardSpace with a safer online identity experience than users are currently exposed to. Therefore, using the name CardSpace will clearly help establish the name and what it refers to in people's minds, much easier than an acronym.
I hope that you'll join me in trying to stifle this problem by sending a quick note to anyone you see using WCS to refer to CardSpace, asking them to use CardSpace instead?
Source: blogs.msdn.comCardSpace Hacked? No!In a post on his blog, Sergey Shishkin claims to have "hacked" CardSpace. Alas, this is more a case of CardSpace perhaps doing too good a job of providing a consistent user experience by masking when it drops back to the user's desktop to open the file-open dialog!
I've tried posting a response clarifying the situation to Sergey's blog, but I keep getting errors back. I've posted my response here for now:
Hey Sergey.
What you've "found" is not, in fact, a penetration at all!
When you open the "File Open" dialogs from within CardSpace, you're actually dropped back to your desktop where the "File Open" dialog is displayed to you (this is why the UI flickers a little when you hit browse).
We were very careful to ensure that the dialog was not opened from within CardSpace's desktop to shield you from inadvertently (or deliberately) invoking code which could execute within and therefore potentially compromise the safety of CardSpace's Private Desktop.
The fact that it LOOKS LIKE the dialog is opening from within CardSpace was because we wanted to try and keep the user experience as consistent as possible.
I hope this clears up this issue?

Source: breakingnewsblog.comSimple STS Sample PublishedIt's been a long time coming, but Garrett Serack, Community PM for CardSpace has just published a Simple STS sample (with slight updates here) illustrating how to build an STS that is compatible with CardSpace.
This is something I know many of you have been waiting for and the release of this Simple STS unlocks the door to those wanting to explore CardSpace in managed-card scenarios. The sample is contained within a ZIP file that also contains docs, certs, sample cards, a managed card creator and an installer.
Anyone who has seen our prior STS' implementations will know that the availability of a very simple implementation of an STS would be a welcome thing – this one delivers. Implemented in just a handful of source files, this STS is simple, clear and concise. I'd wager that even my long-suffering better half could understand what it does ;)
Go pound on this implementation and tell us what you think over at http://cardspace.netfx3.com.

There are more reward credit cards around now than ever before. There are cash back credit cards, points cards and American Express even have a new nectar card out. One of the long running popular rewards has been the airline credit card. These are offered by many of the main card providers and they offer as their reward scheme the chance to collect airmiles as you spend. Airmiles are an extremely popular reward as they can be redeemed on major airlines for free or upgraded flights. However, the question customers have to keep asking themselves in this respect is whether or not they offer the best value.
Looking at airline credit cards as a whole, they typically reward you with one airmile per pound spent. This seems fair enough but when you look at airmile redemption prices, you can see that it costs thousands of airmiles for even the shortest flights. For the vast majority of customers, it will take literally years to spend enough on the card to redeem a free flight, even within the UK. Some customers will be able to add these miles to ones they also collect on flights and in this way build up miles faster.
If you compare this to other rewards however, you may be forced to ask yourself if they are worth the hassle. First, compare this type of reward with similar rewards for using say a cash back credit card. While it will depend on the specific circumstances of your card, it may well be the case that you would have got back enough cash to buy a flight out right before ever getting enough miles to claim a free one.
Also, if you are paying high interest on an outstanding balance then airmiles will be the last thing you should be thinking of. Rather you should consider getting a good balance transfer card that will allow you to switch your balance to it and enjoy a substantial interest free period on the balance. This will likely save you far more than any reward scheme will b e worth to you. Also, you may want a card that gives you lower rates on purchases if you do not pay off your balance in full each month. As a general rule, if you don't pay off your entire balance in full each month, you should be more concerned with interest rates and balance transfer possibilities than reward schemes on credit cards you use.
